Traces is an immersive and theatrical multi-disciplinary art & design event inspired by real stories and histories of buildings.

Every story, however hidden, leaves a trace… Have you ever wandered through a dilapidated and empty building, wishing you could see it as the last inhabitants left it?

For ten days in February 2014, ‘Traces’ will take a neglected old building and bring it alive again with the smells, tastes, touches and sounds of days gone by. Immersive and theatrical, ‘Traces,’ is a new kind of art and design event, showcasing the work of over 100 artists. Painstakingly researched, it will map and elaborate on the actual stories of the inhabitants of our event’s secret location.

The public are invited to discover these histories for themselves; wandering through the rooms left as if only a moment before, and unpicking their secrets. Interacting with the specially commissioned and selected art and design pieces, to unravel clues about the building and it’s inhabitants, whilst also having the opportunity to buy their favourites at the end of the night.

We want you to discover the secrets for yourselves! In the run up to the event we will be releasing clues to the secret location, the era in which the event is set and the former inhabitants of the building. You can access these clues through Twitter, the Traces website and through a special guerilla campaign taking place on the streets surrounding the site itself.

We need your help!

Traces has been generously offered support from Arts Council England on the condition that we make our Kickstarter target. We have everything in place to create the set, commission up to 100 artists and begin our exciting clue and guerilla campaigns. This is our final hurdle in bringing real history to life! We have really tried to bring you special and exciting rewards which are exclusive to this campaign, and we hope that the authenticity and innovative nature of this project inspires you to make a donation.

Why make a pledge?

Traces is non – profit and committed to providing a platform for emerging artists and designers to exhibit alongside established professionals in their field without the extortionate fees that the major art & design fairs charge. We take a small commission of 25% on sales which help fund the next project. Our artists will have the opportunity to create and sell new work by engaging directly with the general public, collectors and industry contacts.

We aim to provide an unforgettable and meaningful experience for our audiences and artists based on real histories. We want local people to discover real and relevant stories about their community, leaving a legacy and re-instating a sense of local pride. We also want to offer the wider public a new way to experience art and design, making it more accessible to those who don’t usually visit art galleries.

And when we say unforgettable, it really is. The Traces experience is a mix of immersive theatre, site specific performance, historical research, exhibition display and shopping!
