jeff walked in

on you fingering your vagina

while injecting heroin

in his bathroom

in a basement apartment

across the street

from scott high school

you said it was the only way

you could get off

it was your cello

your violin

drowning out the sad song

of class bells

like sweet music

to your ears.

The Midwestern Guide to Time Travel

remember to dance in 10 ft. steel cage

one for every year of your life

to dream of a future

filled with flying cars

and international date lines

that seem as limitless

as homespun wisdom

somewhere a little voice

tells you to drown a mermaid

in 39 ft of water or a hill of dirt

it sings for blood

as the sun

touches your skin.

Joey Ramone Serves Beignets in Hell

shoving his hair under a paper hat

imagining the sugar shakers

can hold enough cocaine

to take down an alligator

in any swamp

he tucks in a scream.
